There’ll also be a range of more hearty dishes including many suitable for people with special dietary requirements such as gluton/wheat free.

Kitted out with communal benches, Bakerie will feature an ever changing wall of media art and design, providing an interesting and family friendly (there’ll be a special menu for babies and toddlers) atmosphere to enjoy the great wines.

Bakerie at the Hive (planned opening winter 2011 at Unit 1, the Hive, Lever Street)

Bakerie at the Hive will be home to a wide range of deli counters. Customers will be able to sample and buy the great wines, breads, olives, oils & balsams, coffees & pastries.

Events at the store will include wine & bread school, tastings, book readings/signings, art previews and after parties. Customers will be able to watch the bread being made every day at the store.

Completed last year, the Hive on Lever Street is the only Grade A office building in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Tenants include the Arts Council and the Studio – versatile space for meetings, launch events, conferences, training days and parties.

The office space at the Hive is flexible to meet all requirements and is available from 1,000 sq ft to 40,000 sq ft. The building also benefits from a natural ventilation system which ensures it is one of the greenest and most cost effective buildings in Manchester.

Manchester based cloud computing expert Shaping Cloud has secured a major contract with the University of Sheffield and the Centre for Low Carbon Futures (CLCF) to design and build a new software system that will help businesses reduce the carbon emissions in their supply chain by tapping into the extensive results of Low Carbon Supply Chain (LCSC) research project.

Professor Lenny Koh, University of Sheffield said: “We’re pleased to be working with Shaping Cloud to develop what we hope will be a truly useful tool for businesses, helping them to reduce their carbon footprint.”

The software, being developed by Shaping Cloud using the Windows Azure Cloud Platform, will allow businesses to tap into the extensive source of best practise case studies created by the research project, to help them learn and improve their own systems.

For example: A company that produces beer would input the location of where their barley and wheat comes from and how it is transported, and then add in the details of each stage of the process to turn the raw materials into beer.

Once the data is completed the software would then calculate the carbon footprint for each stage of the process, identifying hotspots and then point the business to case studies, generated by the extensive research project, offering practical examples to help them reduce their carbon emissions.

Carlos Oliveira, Shaping Cloud said: “We are very excited to be working with the team at the University of Sheffield to develop the new software tool. It is one of the key and growing uses of the cloud, and once the product is completed and ready to be used by businesses, any future developments and additions will be updated automatically, so everyone using the software will always have the latest version.”

Steve Beswick, director of education at Microsoft said: “Shaping Cloud has used Windows Azure to help Sheffield University deliver this ground breaking project quickly and cost-effectively. We look forward to seeing how this kind of thinking can be deployed by other academic institutions to help solve some of the biggest issues facing society today.”

Mary-Anne King, environmental sustainability lead at Microsoft added: “Technology can reshape the way organisations work, so they can be more environmentally sustainable. We are delighted to see Microsoft technology playing such an important role in this research project for Sheffield University, which has huge potential to be rolled out to businesses across the UK.”

Carlos Oliveira from Shaping Cloud concluded: “We see great potential for the broader adoption of the Windows Azure “Platform as a Service” model within Universities. It delivers a hugely scalable, on demand computing infrastructure that can support fast and complex research ideas and projects, including process intensive calculations without requiring any capital expenditure on hardware or software. It can really free up students and faculty staff to think big in their studies knowing they won’t be constrained by the computing resources available to them.”

Carlos set up Shaping Cloud in summer 2010. The company is dedicated to helping businesses make the most out of cloud computing. Shaping Cloud can help reduce IT costs through transferring servers to the cloud and develop bespoke applications to help companies streamline their business processes, and offer better services to their customers.

Current Shaping Cloud customers include: Cottons Financial Planners, Alpha Kinetic, Joshua Brookes, Ramparts, Active Data Tools and TalentFeed.
